Scott Erickson "Vive La Vie"

We have meet Scott Erickson, the composer of the song "Vive La Vie", the music of the new Halloween Cavalcade. He agreed answer our questions. Here is the transcription of the interview :

         - Scott, you are back at Disneyland Paris with a new song. Can you explain how you where selected to compose this song ?

Vasile called and asked me to compose for this show.  We decided after a first version to call in some other writers.  In the end, it is a collaboration with Brendan Milbur.//n, Valerie Vigoda and Fabrice Ferrer.  We had a great time collaborating all the way through the process.

- This new song is once again about Halloween, do you think you have a special feeling with that season ?

I love Halloween and it has become a special season for me over the last 10 years as I have become more involved in creating music for special events in the parks.

- Some Disney fans on Internet say that this song will become certainly a musical reference at Disneyland Paris, as was in the late 90ies "Dancing A Catchy Rythm", what do you fell about this ?

I was working with Robbie Buchanan when Vasile brought him in to produce 'Dancing...."  That was the project when I first met Vasile and the wonderful people at DLP.  If this songs ends up being half a successful as "Dancing...." it would be very special.
- The title of the song "Vive La Vie" is opposed to the halloween theme, the death and the dead. Why having choosen that title and some happy lyrics?

For this version of the show, we decided to focus more on the Harvest season and less on Halloween type lyrics.  Valerie Vigoda wrote the lyrics and tried to capture the feeling of Autumn and the Harvest and celebrate life and all of theses ideas.

- What inspired you to compose this song ? Did you saw the draws of the float ? Did you work with Emmanuel Lenormand or Vasile Sirli to write the song ?

We worked closely with the entire creative team at DLP and with Walt Disney Creative Entertainment in Burbank.  This was very much a team effort.

- We can feel a kind of Country style in the song. Can you explain that choice ? And the choice of the instruments ?
The 'Country' style of the song is intended, again, to give the idea of the harvest.  We tried for a kind of folk meets pop meets Disney idea.  Hopefully, that comes across in the final version.
- Wasn't it hard to add french lyrics in an english song ?
Adding French lyrics was very easy with the help of our co-writter Fabrice.  He's a French native and Matt Walker, our music executive, invited him to collaborate with us for that very reason.
- What was the main difficulties to write a song for European visitors who do not celebrate Halloween as the America does ?
Not really.  The idea of the Harvest and Autumn season is a more universal idea than Halloween, as you noted which is why we tried, for this version of the parade to focus more on those elements.  In the future, as visitors begin to embrace the Halloween idea more, we will probably create new material to celebrate those ideas as well.
- Who are the singers ? How where they selected ?

The singers are some of our wonderful LA session singers.  They were selected, because they are the best!

Thank You and Once again : CONGRATULATIONS ! Everyone I know, and comments I read says that they love the song !

Thank you for your continued interest and enthusiasm for our new shows and songs.  Without and audience, there is no show!

Cheers!
